Department of Applied Foreign Languages

 

1. Objective

The aim of this department is to cultivate talented people of having profound, fluent, and professional language abilities and global views. In the aspect of professional language abilities, students will major in English courses, and secondly, Japanese courses. The students will acquire the bilingual abilities of listening, speaking, reading, and writing in order to correspond with the requirement of the social needs, for example, trade, tourism, English teaching, etc. 

 

2. Features

(1) In order to acquire proficient and fluent language abilities, the students will learn foreign languages professionally and profoundly.

(2) English grading academy will be on going. The bilingual abilities of listening, speaking, reading, and writing are the main issue of teaching and learning for corresponding with the social requirement.

(3) Because of the requirement of social employment, the department will assist students to major in the specific track when they are senior, for example, children English teaching track, tourism service track, and business trade track.

(4) The global view is the main goal of the academy, It is vital to broaden students’ various thinking and knowing of the international issues and cultures. Furthermore, University of Saint Francis is our relative school. Students are able to enter this school to have the advanced study; meanwhile, they can expand their international view and life planning.

(5) Provide excellent foreign language teaching with national and international teachers and multimedia academy.

 

3. Courses

(1) Professional Courses: English Pronunciation, English Listening and Speaking Practice, Advanced English Communication, Grammar, English Vocabulary and Reading, English Reading and Writing, Advanced English Writing and Translation, Advanced English Reading, Introduction to Linguistics, Comparison of Eastern-Western Culture etc.

(2) Children English Teaching Track: Introduction to Children English Teaching Methodology, Foreign Language Acquisition, English Teaching Methodology and Materials, and Appreciation of English Children’s Literature etc.

(3) Tourism Service Track: Marketing, Introduction to Economics Tourism English etc.

 

4. Facilities

Multimedia Language Classroom, Language Laboratory, English and Japanese Learning Corner

 

5. Future Development

(1) University-bound: Students can apply for studies at national and international colleges and universities of technology, to which their major is related.

(2). Career-bound: the positions related to international trade, national or international tour guide, secretary, Mandarin-English interpreter, English-Japanese interpreter, Mandarin-Japanese interpreter, flight attendant, etc.
